Meet the Makers
Nick and Saffy Woolley are the visionaries behind Pilgrims Barn, a 30+ year dream for them both, a remarkable eco-home and retreat set within the Suffolk countryside. In 2021, the couple transformed a former poultry shed that once housed 5,000 free-range chickens into an inspiring sustainable haven, combining innovative ecological design with a deep respect for nature and wellbeing. Guided by the principles of passive solar living and the pioneering work of Professors Brenda and Robert Vale, Pilgrims Barn was created not simply as a home, but as a living example of how people and the natural world can exist in harmony.
Together, Nick and Saffy have dedicated themselves to restoring the surrounding land through patience, care and environmental stewardship. Since moving onto the site, they have planted thousands of native trees, hedging plants and wildflowers, creating an ever-growing sanctuary for wildlife, pollinators and birds. Their passion for sustainability extends through every aspect of Pilgrims Barn, from renewable energy and rainwater harvesting to wildlife conservation and mindful living. Today, Pilgrims Barn stands as a peaceful retreat space rooted in kindness, resilience and a belief that even damaged land can, with time and love, thrive once again.
